Some of America’s largest and most prominent companies shower part-time staff with respectable benefits. These perks include health insurance and other goodies for approximately 20 hours of weekly employment.

1.  JPMorgan Chase & Co.

One of the largest banking institutions in the United States of America, JPMorgan operates approximately 5,000 Chase Bank branches across 38 states and Washington, D.C., according to the company’s 2019 annual report.

Part-time Chase Bank employees are regularly scheduled to work at least 20 hours but less than 40 hours per week. They generally have access to medical, dental and vision benefits effective on the first day of the month following 60 days of continuous employment. Other benefits include a 401 (k) savings plan and life and accident insurance plans, according to the JPMorgan Chase U.S. Benefits Program. Most Chase Bank employees have access to this sweeping program, excluding those living in Arizona and Ohio.

JPMorgan Chase is seeking part-time bank tellers at various branches, including sites in Phoenix, Seattle and Indianapolis. These associate bankers are expected to have excellent customer service skills and the ability to complete financial transactions accurately and efficiently.

2.  Costco Wholesale Corp.

Costco operates hundreds of membership-driven warehouses across the United States. Consumers with active Costco memberships may purchase a broad range of consumer goods ranging from food and electronics to clothing and gasoline at relatively low prices.

Costco says it provides “generous benefits” to its U.S. workforce, including affordable health care coverage for part-time employees. These part-timers are eligible for medical and dental benefits on the first day of the second month after working 450 eligible paid hours. The company is currently hiring part-time positions in the pharmacy section and elsewhere, according to Costco’s employment website.

3.  United Parcel Service Inc.

Better known as UPS, this global shipping company is one of the world’s largest package delivery firms. UPS employs more than 400,000 workers in the United States across numerous facilities, including distribution centers and warehouses. Many of the employees are package handlers or truck drivers, according to the company’s 2019 annual report.

“Permanent UPS jobs — including part-time jobs — come with great pay and benefits, including healthcare and retirement benefits,” the company says on its website. “At many UPS locations, part-time employees are eligible to receive up to $25,000 in tuition assistance through Earn and Learn.”

UPS workers are eligible for medical, dental and vision benefits after nine months of employment. The company is currently seeking part-time package handlers at numerous warehouses across the United States.

4.  Apple Inc.

Best known for the iPhone flagship products, Apple is a global tech company that operates more than 200 retail stores across the United States. Apple designs, manufactures and markets smartphones, personal computers, tablets, wearables and accessories, and sells a variety of related services, according to its corporate filings.

Apple’s part-time employees “are eligible for such benefits as health insurance, matching retirement contributions, and an employee stock purchase plan,” the company says on its website. It does not say when, exactly, employees become eligible for medical coverage, but published reports suggest the waiting period may be 12 months from the date of hire.

Apple is currently hiring part-time sales team members at certain Apple Stores, including outlets in Dallas, Miami, Los Angeles and Cincinnati. These employees, formally known as “Experts,” are retail workers who drive up sales by turning “mild customer curiosity into intense interest” in Apple products.

5.  Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc.

This restaurant chain is known for its robust menu of burritos, burrito bowls, tacos and salads. The company as of December 2019 operated 2,580 Chipotle restaurants throughout the United States.

Chipotle makes medical, dental and vision insurance available to all part-time employees. The workers are eligible for health care coverage on the first of the month following 30 days of hire. All employees may also receive $5,250 a year in tuition assistance, according to Chipotle’s website.

Despite an ongoing public health emergency, Chipotle is still seeking to hire part-time employees in certain locations.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected, and will continue to adversely affect, our operations and financial results for the foreseeable future,” Chipotle said in its quarterly report for the period ended Sept. 30, 2020. “In response to COVID-19, we temporarily closed some restaurants and dining rooms in our restaurants.”

Chipotle is currently advertising jobs openings at various restaurants, including part-time crew positions in New York City and San Francisco.
